Many music lovers will descend on Murcia tomorrow for the twelfth annual San Javier International Jazz Festival. The festival features sixteen concerts from such greats as the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra, John Fogarty and Wynton Marsalis.

If that was not enough you could get in your hire car and drive sixteen miles to Cartagena and attend the fifteenth Ocean of Music, Art and Film Festival. This begins on the fourth of July and features performance from Buena Vista Social Club, Rachid Taha and the legendary Marianne Faithful. The event will include forty four concerts and fifteen film screenings as well as various art and photography exhibitions.

It’s absolutely scorching at the moment in Murcia. If you need a break from the music there are plenty of great beaches to relax on as well as lots of excellent bars and restaurants in which to cool off.

Other acts appearing at the jazz festival include the Brazilian All Stars, Christian McBride, Steve Winwood and Ron Carter. Bo Diddley will be honoured at this years festival.

The city of Murcia is currently preparing to host a Gay Pride event which is set to begin on the 24th of June and end on the 28th of June. It is the second time the city will host the event.

Last years event was quite low key with a small parade and a speech which was given at Plaza Santo Domingo. The event looks set to be expanded this year with the parade set to involve Eulalia and Plaza Sardoy.

Speaking on behalf of the No te prives organization Luis Miguel López said that everyone is welcome at the event. He said that it will be a fun event for everyone regardless of sexual preference or background. The Pecaminata group are also involved in the preparations for the parade.

If you plan on attending this event then why not make the most of your holiday and tour the region. There are certainly enough interesting and fun things to do to merit a week or two of your time if you can spare it.
