According to a recent survey the cost of driving in Europe has dropped. There are currently some excellent car hire offers in Murcia and now driving costs in Spain may work out at as much as thirty one percent cheaper than in the UK.
The best fuel prices were found to be in Spain and Austria while Switzerland was the cheapest for unleaded fuel. The major savings are available on diesel cars with the difference being much less with unleaded vehicles (UK comparison). Netherlands was the most expensive country for fuel.
The survey also looked at the cost of hiring a car this year. Florida showed an increase of sixty four percent in price while at the other end of the scale prices in Greece dropped by thirty six percent. There was a thirty two percent drop in Swedish car hire prices and a twenty one percent drop in Portugal. The increase in Florida was put down to the weak pound and recession induced fleet cuts.
Petrol prices are proving a real pain in the neck for drivers during these tough economic times. Drivers want some value for their money. Lots of things can increase your fuel usage including windscreen wipers, car radios, air conditioning and heating but of course these things can’t be avoided for the most part.
Here are a few fuel saving tips which you may find useful for your Murcia Airport car hire.
Don’t accelerate too quickly – It is easier on fuel if you accelerate gradually. Not ideal if you are in a hurry but worth keeping in mind.
Don’t drive too fast – You will use twice as much fuel at a steady 70mph as you would at a steady 40mph. It is recommended to travel between 40 and 60mph to get the best value from your fuel.
Change gears at the right time – As I’m sure you know the correct time to change gears is when the speed you are travelling can be held in the next gear without changing the accelerator pressure. If you are changing gears and hear a loud surging sound from your engine this means you are not being as fuel efficient as you could be.
Correct use of brakes – Try to look ahead and know as soon as possible when you will need to brake. Simply easing off the accelerator rather than having to break suddenly will save fuel.
Avoid traffic – Do your best to avoid traffic. Stop start traffic can be tough on fuel costs. Try to plan ahead and find routes with as little traffic as possible.
